KNOW THE GAME

How to play Spades

01 · Make your bid

Each player predicts 0–13 tricks and scores their own contract. Zero is nil: take no tricks for +100, or lose 100 if you take any.

02 · Play your cards

Click or tap once to throw. Follow the led suit if you can; otherwise play any card. Spades are always trump. You may lead spades only once broken, or when your hand has only spades.

03 · Take the trick

The highest spade wins; without spades, the highest card of the led suit wins. The winner leads next. You never have to trump or beat a card when you cannot follow suit.

04 · Make it count

Make your contract for 10 points per bid trick; fall short and lose that amount. Extra tricks earn 1 point and a bag each. Every 10 bags cost 100 points. Tricks taken on a failed nil become bags.

05 · Finish the match

Deal 13 cards each. The player to the dealer’s left bids and leads first; dealer rotates each hand. The first uniquely highest player at 500 or more wins. Ties continue. No blind nil or jokers.
